As summer comes to an end and the start of a new school year approaches, many families begin preparing for back-to-school expenses. For some parents, getting their children ready for school can be overwhelming. The Backpack Giveaway and Resource Fair in McCook, held on Aug 5th helped ease that burden by providing students with the supplies they need to start the school year with confidence, while giving the parents peace of mind.
Thanks to the funds raised through the Salvation Army bell-ringing campaign, each child was able to choose their own backpack and fill it with school supplies they needed for their specific grade.
In addition to receiving a backpack and school supplies, children also had access to a variety of free services to help them prepare for the upcoming school year. Children were able to receive their immunizations as well as dental cleanings and screenings from the Nebraska Total Care dental van.
A team of five hairstylists was on hand to provide haircuts for the children. One young girl, in particular, was especially excited to get her hair cut and styled, helping her feel beautiful and confident for her first day of school.
Nearly 20 vendors, including Catholic Social Services, were on hand at the Resource Fair to provide valuable information, resources, and support to children and families preparing for the new school year.
It was amazing to see the community and local businesses come together to support families in need and help children start the new school year feeling prepared and confident.
