CSS now has a permanent office location allowing us to better serve individuals and families in need throughout Southwest Nebraska.  This location, located just a couple of blocks west of downtown McCook, provides an opportunity to meet with clients face-to-face, offer financial assistance with rent and utilities, and other urgent needs.  We are also able to connect individuals with additional community resources.

Recently, a mother came to our office with her 3 children.  She had experienced the heartbreaking loss of a baby earlier this year and is now going through a divorce while facing a high-risk pregnancy.  Meeting with her in person allowed us to listen to her story, better understand her needs, and explore ways we could help support her and her family during such a difficult time.

This summer, a young mother came to our McCook office seeking help with rent.  She was embarrassed and unsure how to ask for assistance.  Her husband had to return to Mexico to renew his immigration paperwork, leaving her in the United States alone with their three-month-old baby.  CSS was able to help pay her utility bill and connect her with local resources for diapers and food.

Experiences like this remind us that behind every request for assistance is a person with a story, often facing challenges that go far beyond financial need.  Having a welcoming space in McCook allows us to offer not only practical assistance, but also compassion, understanding, and community connections.
