Endowed Funds & Legacy Gifts (via The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska)
Endowments serve as a way to leave an ongoing legacy. Endowments are funds in which up to 5% of the earnings are distributed annually while protecting the principal of your gift. You can fund the endowment now, or later, from your estate. Once established, the earnings support CSS indefinitely. An endowment can be started with a minimum of $10,000.00.
Benefits:
- The Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska manages the fund and distributes ongoing income to CSS.
- Creating an endowed fund gives you an opportunity to give the fund a name that is meaningful to you, or honor another person in memory or tribute.
- To encourage additional support and funding, the Catholic Foundation of Southern Nebraska raises awareness of the endowments we manage through their website, materials, seminars, events, and a legacy society.

Gift of Grain
Gifts of grain are an attractive gift choice for many farmers. When a load of grain is hauled to the local elevator, the grain is transferred by the donor into a grain account for CSS, thus completing the gift. The farmer does not collect a check for a grain sale and therefore avoids income tax and self-employment tax on the money that would have otherwise been earned had the grain been sold. The individual is also able to deduct the business expenses associated with raising the donated crop.

Gift of Securities
CSS welcomes gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds, and mutual funds as a great way to support the poor in southern Nebraska. Not only will your contribution entitle you to an income tax deduction, but you may also avoid capital gains taxes.

Individual Retirement Account (IRA)
At age 72, a traditional IRA holder (unlike a Roth IRA holder) must begin taking a taxable Required Minumum Distribution (RMD) from their IRA. Instead of taking the RMD amount as income and paying income tax, the IRA holder may donate the entire RMD or portion of it directly to a 501(c)(3) charity like Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska and avoid paying tax on the amount up to $100,000 per year or $200,000 as a couple.

Matching Gifts
Matching Gifts allow you to double your gift to Catholic Social Services Many companies offer a matching gift program through which they will match an employee’s charitable contribution. Often it’s as simple as completing a form... that’s it! That may be all it takes for your gift to be doubled (in some cases, tripled) with no extra cost to you. Check with your employer or your spouse’s employer to see if they offer a matching gift program. If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, fill it out and send it to us... we’ll do the rest!
