The 30th annual CSS Memorial Golf Classic & Cookout is set for Monday, September 14th, at Hillcrest Country Club in Lincoln. Our first tournament was held on a Friday in late September in 1996. The next evening after that first tournament, CSS staff member Fran Walsh, sister of Fr. Joseph Walsh, was involved in a car accident and tragically lost her life hours later. The next year, it was decided to make it a memorial tournament and to hold that year’s event in memory of Fran. Each year since, the tournament has been held in memory of an individual or couple who had an impact on Catholic Social Services and our Catholic community and has passed away. We are honored to hold this year's event in memory of Tom and Margaret Tracy of Lincoln.
Tom co-founded Masonry Construction Co. and later opened Tracy's Body Shop in 1969, building a business the family still treasures today. Margaret grew up on a farm near Valparaiso, where she learned the gardening, canning, cooking, and baking skills she carried through life — and where she met Tom. The two married and built both thriving businesses and a devoted home together, staying married for 72 years until they passed within weeks of each other in November 2023, both at age 91.
There are a number of ways you can support the 30th annual CSS Memorial Golf Classic & Cookout. If you’d like to play, sign up soon as team space is limited. The afternoon flight is full, but there are still slots available in the morning flight, which starts at 7:00 AM. Registration includes carts, lunch, and a 6:00 PM cookout for each golfer and a guest.
Not a golfer? You can still take part! Hole sponsorships and priest sponsorships are open now, and memorial gifts can be made in honor of the Tracys or a loved one of your own.
