Who We Are

CSS Board of Directors

BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT | Leslie Weisler

When Leslie Weisler joined the Board of Directors at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska (CSS), she didn’t ease in quietly; she stepped up immediately, taking on the role of Board Secretary and diving headfirst into service.

Leslie, who works at Union Bank and Trust, says her passion for community involvement began through her workplace culture. “Union Bank really encourages employees to get involved in something they care about,” she shared. “That’s what led me to CSS. I already knew the incredible work being done here.”

Even before officially joining the board, Leslie began making an impact by serving on the Celebration of Hope Gala & Silent Auction committee, helping bring new faces and new energy to one of CSS’s signature events. She also rallied support from her own network, including her husband and owner of Wiesler Electric, who sponsored a table for the event.

What has stood out most to Leslie since getting involved is the sheer scope of CSS’s work. From the St. Gianna Program supporting survivors of domestic violence and under-supported pregnancies, to Family Support Services, the Food Market, Refugee and Immigration Legal Services, and newer outreach efforts, she was struck by how many lives are touched across southern Nebraska.

“I don’t think people always realize how far CSS reaches across southern Nebraska,” she said. “And it’s for everyone - people of all faiths and backgrounds. That really impacted me.”

Leslie was also pleasantly surprised by the spirit of collaboration she encountered while serving on the Celebration of Hope Gala & Silent Auction Committee. “Every meeting begins with prayer, and there’s such a calm, respectful environment. People truly listen to one another, and it makes a difference. You can feel that shared mission.”

As a mother of three, Leslie sees her volunteer work as more than just service. It’s an example. “It’s important for my kids to see that giving your time matters. Volunteering is rewarding because you know you’re helping others, and that’s something worth passing on.”

When asked why others should get involved with CSS, her answer is simple: “I’ve seen firsthand how CSS brings hope and love into every encounter. Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or praying for the mission, there’s a place for everyone to be part of that.”

For Leslie, saying “yes” to serving on the board wasn’t just an opportunity; it was a calling to make a difference. And in a short time, she’s already helping to bring heart and leadership to CSS- supporting Hope in the Good Life wholeheartedly.
